Venus & Mars Are Alright Tonight

So, for the past few weeks I've been spending the evening hours out on the front porch jamming to tunes while planet gazing.

Jupiter and Saturn now appear on the horizon directly in front of my position. As I am near the city, the urban lights outshine the stars, but they cannot yet take the planets from me...

The evening weather has been fantastic in the Carolina piedmont this year! (which is no surprise, since it's awesome here every year.)

I've been looking every night too - I think I may go to the local observatory in a few weeks to see Jupiter and Saturn align in the night sky on December 21. It'll be the closest they've appeared in 800 years.

Elevate me...

I had a good glimpse of those two planets the week before Thanksgiving but I had trouble spotting Mars in the east. Venus is the morning star but I'm never up that early!

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Thanks! I can't miss em. They are the only things shining, and with the moon glowing in the same frame... wow. Really cool to see, actually. City folk don't get much in the way of astral imagery.

I have to go to the back yard for Mars. Venus is lovely. Get up for it, sleepyhead!

I would get eaten alive by mozzies if I were to sit outside.

I did dare to go outside a few times yesterday to watch the choppers coming and going to pick up water to put out a bush fire one suburb away from me. Took them 3 hours, which was pretty amazing, and Summer starts tomorrow. Going to be another too long hot Summer.

Aw, why let a few bugs & humidity keep you shut inside? There's stars to see!

P.S. Just keep an eye out for crocs. I've been watching croc docs on utube lately. Jiminy Crickets! Stay outta da bogs and swamps and anything that looks croc-a-dishy...

P.P.S. It's good to see ya here in The Venting Blog again, old friend!

Well, if you think that you have it so bad here, just try the weather on Saturn.

Thanks for the reminder on this. We forget sometimes as we gaze up at the cloud-obscured sky...
sigh, I need warmer climes!
