Feeling Sentimental

For as long as I can remember, music has always been a big part of my life.

It has the uncanny ability to transport me back to a particular place and time, and to elicit so many thoughts, emotions and memories.

My personal collection spans multiple genres and I equally enjoy instrumentals and lyrics.

Perhaps it's the time of year as the seasons continue to change and the year is drawing closer to the end or because I am content to be at home on a Saturday night lost in my thoughts that made be think of this song. It has always brought tears to my eyes and touches my soul.

Always On My Mind -Willie Nelson
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
And maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have

If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

And maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me,
Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me
One more chance to keep you satisfied
I'll keep you satisfied

What songs impact you?

Too many to list, but the title of your post reminded me of "Sentimental Journey".

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Hi Sexyldy...

Ok, you cannot say that Willie Nelson is from Canada... just sayin'... I saw him in concert three years ago. it was sweet...

My fav song of his is a song written by Cindy Walker:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX_vYXvATA0

Willie Nelson - 'You Don't Know Me'

You give your hand to me and then you say hello
And I can hardly speak, my heart is beating so
And anyone could tell, you think you know me well
But you don't know me

No, you don't know the one who dreams of you at night
And longs to kiss your lips and longs to hold you tight
To you I'm just a friend, that's all I have ever been
But you don't know me, you don't know me

For I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart ached with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance you might have loved me too

You give your hand to me and then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away beside the lucky guy
To never, never know the one who loves you so
No, you don't know me

For I never knew the art of making love
Though my…

So many songs! I was singing along with a Willie Nelson in the car today, "One Day at a Time," though as done by Joan Baez.

Another is "Four Strong Winds," either the original Ian & Sylvia or the later Neil Young. And, maybe more obscure, "Canned Music" by Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks (with the Lickettes). Enough for now?

No wasn't taking claim on Willie. We have so many great artists here to be proud of.
I understand that 'You Don't Know Me' was written by Cindy Walker based on a story line given to her by Eddy Arnold and was first recorded by him
and released as a single on April 21, 1956 on RCA Victor

The version of 'You Don't Know Me" that I am familiar with is by Ray Charles

Our own Michael Buble also has a great version of it

Tony Carey's 'Fine, Fine, Day' and The Stranglers 'Golden Brown'. Both transport me back to a specific place and time at various stages of my childhood. They elicit happy memories of people and places.

music can move me, it can set my mood, or compliment it

one of my fav artists is Johnny Reid

to day its this song

"My Old Friend"

Today I said goodbye to my old friend
I pray some day we get to meet again
under one more clear, blue sky
up there where the eagles fly

and/where/and we'll go walking in the sunshine
with a big smile on our face
race the river to the ocean
go splashing in the waves
and I'll wrap my arms around you
we'll be together once again
and I'll tell you how much I've missed you
my old friend

yeah, I know you're up there looking down
on that rainbow bridge we talked about
there's a place for me and you
somewhere up there behind the moon

Another song that has always affects me and brings tears to my eyes is 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' .
When I was child the Wizard of Oz movie scared the heck out of me, especially the trees in the enchanted forest, the flying monkeys and the Wicked Witch's guardsmen but this song stood out.
Through the years, I have heard many artists cover this song, but Judy Garland's version is timeless.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

"Always on my mind", is one of those songs that triggers wonderful memories of good loves for me to!
It always brings tears to my eyes. Reminds me of past relationships. If it is played and we dance to it, I squeeze a little tighter.
