Spring Is Just Around The Corner

Actually, that's not quite true. The March Equinox also know as the Spring Equinox or the Vernal Equinox happens in my city ( Toronto, Ontario, Canada) tomorrow at 5:37 am EDT.

The March Equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator (the imaginary line in the above the Earth’s equator) from south t.o north and vice versa in September.

On the equinoxes, the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is nearly equal, but not quite.

While it will be the vernal (spring) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere (USA, Central America, Canada, Europe, Asia, northern Africa), in the Southern Hemisphere, it's the autumnal (fall) equinox.

Spring is thought of as a time of re-birth and renewal. It is the time when the Light has won out over the Darkness and begins t.o grow in strength and power. It is a time when the World begins t.o wake up after the long, cold nights of winter.

The date of the March equinox plays a huge role in calculating the dates for when t.o celebrate Jewish Passover and Christian Easter.

The Iranian New Year (Nowruz, No-Ruz, No-Rooz, or No Ruz) occurs on the March equinox, in accordance with the Persian calendar.

Higan (Higan-e or Ohigan), is a week of Buddhist services in Japan during the March equinox and the September equinox. “Higan” means the “other shore” and refers t.o dead spirits who reach Nirvana after crossing the river of existence.

Spring weather can tease us with double-digit temperatures and then drop to below zero overnight. However, the Canadian Farmers’ Almanac is forecasting a mild and wet one for most parts of the country. Showers and thunderstorms will be prevalent especially over the Prairies and east during late April.

Time invest in a good pair of rainboots!

Spring is not my favourite season since the weather is so unpredictable and wet.
What do you look forward to during Spring?

I always say that the season starts on the first of the month of the equinox/solstice as that is about 70 days since the last equinox/solstice. Now the previous season might argue the point a bit, but we have had many 60F days in the first part of March over the years. And the redwing blackbirds have been here at least one week. I do admit that 43 degrees north latitude would be quite a bit different than 53 N latitude. I do think that Toronto is about due east from here, maybe a bit north (less than 1 degree), but you have the lake to temper the climate.

I look forward to green grass, livestock newborns, the preparation for planting, planting and a lot of other farm stuff. More days than not that are suitable for going for a equine ride.

I do not particularly look forward to mowing the lawn.

You might like it here. Historically, we get one very short false spring (about now), then a cold snap. Then spring which is short (maybe a months worth) and windy and not much rain. Then summer long before "official" summer. We may or may not have Monsoons - if we don't they are called Nonsoons.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I love the Spring! Time for dewy mornings and flower photos!
My favorite time of year is May/June, that is when my mood is at it's best.

I can understand how so many of the things you are looking forward to are related to farming activities.
I saw the first robin over a week ago and the other assortment of birds are awakening up earlier. Today was a beautiful day with sunshine, blue sky and temperature in the high 50s.

More than one spring and summer sounds interesting. I have never been to Arizona but know that it is popular with many Canadians.

I know spring can be tough for those with seasonal or hay fever allergies. I can also know each day having more minutes of daylight.

Case counts are on the rise in Ontario with 1,800+ today. Despite still being in lockdown, here in Toronto, outdoor restaurant dining (if within the same household) is now allowed.
