Memorial Day

This is the Memorial Day weekend here in the USA. For too many, is just the first summer weekend for fun in the sun. Let us remember those Military Men and Woman and their Families that have served and sacrificed through out our history to make and maintain this freedom to enjoy our "fun in the sun". And lest we forget,, even though it may not be a holiday in other countries, we here in the USA also owe a debt of gratitude to the Military Men and Woman and their families from so many other countries for their service also.

Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime.

Let us remember all the men and women who have served the country and have done so much and given their lives..

Gen. Logan’s order for his posts to decorate graves in 1868 “with the choicest flowers of springtime” urged: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. ... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.”

Just got back from the local Veterans Cemetery, assisting the Boy Scouts setting flags on the grave sites. In a matter of 25 minutes it went from a grass covered area to a sea of waving flags,,, over 18,000 flags posted by the kids, their parents and military members. This during a cold wind driven rain. Was truly a tear jerker for this old fellow.

I see this post of yours decorated with images of memorial day. Here is one I got from the gov. website. I had seen a lot more of Armed forces and scout and civilian helping to place page on grave at some of the national cementary. I think it is a amazing sight to see each of those grave with a flag.
Hope you have a nice long Memorial Day weekend.

That is at the same time a beautiful and sobering image. Memorializing our fallen military and those of other countries is something that must be passed down to our children. Thank you for the beautiful post
