Intangible Present A Poem

He wanted to be the first
To wish me a Happy Birthday!
Indeed his was the first greeting
As the clock struck midnight.
I appreciated his attention
To such a detail.
It made me feel special.

There might not be
A tangible present.
But this giving of wishes
This writing of his
That produced a fantasy
Of a birthday date
Is ever so precious.
The thoughtfulness
So appreciated.
I can hope
It is duplicated.

I will leave that thought
For those who
Shape destinies.
Gods or spirits
That may lead
Us human beings.
With hints
And hypnotic suggestions.
