It's always been taken as more of a derogatory term by me, not that I was ever accused of being precocious. Honest!

Thanks again for another wonderful earworm Joy.

That's not a word I'd hear to describe me.

When you equate the word Precocious as a now being a mid life Adult.... Do you as an Adult, find it derogatory, or at the very least, another back handed compliment?
I've heard one person refer to me as precocious as an adult, and it was over thirty years ago. I don't find it derogatory, though my initial knee-jerk reaction is to tilt my head to the side while quirking an eyebrow.

Were you ever known as a Precocious as a and still find yourself Precocious as an Adult?
Oh boy, was I ever, according to my Mum! By today's standards? I think *snarky* has replaced that word more or less.

How many times did you watch Mary Poppins growing up and now as a Grandparent, introducing it your Grandchildren?
I watched it pretty much every time it was on. I don't have kids, but I'm fairly certain that my nephew and niece will introduce their kids to the movie (both versions) when the time comes.

When your children or Grandchildren are Precocious themselves, much like you were as a child, what do you do?
My nephew was very inquisitive as a toddler; you would see him look at his toys, in the way one figures out how to take things apart to see how it works... and the look on his face made you believe that he would blow up the house with his chemistry set later in life! My niece was a Shy Violet (still is), but she had her cute moments.

It certainly usn't a word I would use to insult someone... To a child I would be referring to one who is a surprise or a challenge in some way, but in an entirely charming , disarming way. I just don't see it working as an adult , so maybe it is an insult ? Is "brat" for an adult the equivalent ? Said with a smile , of course !

Hi Joy

thanks for taking me further with Mary Poppins

that was a nice read

reminded me when my kids were crying when they found out that Shirley Temple was much too old for them

here's one

Hozier - "Movement"

I still watch you when you're groovin'
As if through water from the bottom of a pool
You're movin' without movin'
And when you move, I'm moved
You are a call to motion
There, all of you a verb in perfect view
Like Jonah on the ocean
When you move, I'm moved
When you move
I'm put to mind of all that I wanna be
When you move
I could never define all that you are to me
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
You are the rite of movement
Its reasonin' made lucid and cool
I know it's no improvement
When you move, I move
You're less Polunin leapin'
Or Fred Astaire in sequins
Honey, you, you're Atlas in his sleepin'
And when you move, I'm moved

Unfortunately, some people have a way of turning something that should be positive and funloving into something negative in a quick amount of time.

Funny women are incredibly sexy!

The word "Cute",, belongs Puppies, kittens and babies..Never a grown woman. .... That is just not true at all. A grown woman, may be described as cute.

"Precocious" and "Cute" can be used in a derogatory manner, and each can be used in an admiring manner.

I am no Mary Poppins and if I was, would not be on a site like this, rest assured.. ... From the pictures of Mary Poppins, she would be described as a "Lady". Ladies are not on these types of sites.

Never saw the movie. The girls in the neighborhood saw it... they were always going around singing the stupid song. So we suspected the movie was for girls. Today [and then, though we didn't know the word] if a guy was singing those songs, he would be gay.
