Heartbreak

Warm hugs that meant the world
Gentle touches that screamed desire
He loved her for what she was
They always seemed to be on fire

He wished it would last forever
Not a bit aware of the delusion
Both were so lost in love
Oblivious that Love is nothing but an illusion

Reality dawned on him, a wee bit late
She was not the one meant to be
But the pining never ceased
The hurt was there for all to see

Eyes that turned moist
Salty droplets that ran down his cheek
His heart ached, and ached a bit more
Without her, he felt so weak

Shattered dreams and broken promises
She was no lady-in-waiting
The terrible sound of a crack
It was his beautiful heart breaking

It was time to move on
To emerge from the shroud of delusion
Nothing lasts forever
And love is nothing but an illusion

 The timing of this is just…I could feel the sadness in this poem. I’m a believer in love however. Maybe that makes me old fashioned or a hopeless romantic, thank you for sharing.
