Merry Fucking Christmas! The holiday season is upon us and we retail workers are already counting the days until we can kiss that fucking holiday music goodbye. Goodbye!! I stared for a long moment at my letter opener, this morning, wondering.... is it narrow enough to pierce my eardrums and rid myself of the detestable noise? How many times an hour can I listen to 'New York City Christmas' before I go stark raving mad?? Why isn't there a law restricting the amount of holiday noise one person can be subjected to in a single day??? You know it's bad when I'm sitting in my office at work BLOGGING about my dislike of this shit. God help me make it through the rest of the day.... |

I was in Walmart with my mother on Friday and yeap they were playing the Christmas music. My old manager saw me and asked if I missed listening to this every day and I looked at him and he knew what I was going to say but I was nice and said No. That is one thing I do not miss from my working there. The Light is shinning and she is lonely and waiting in the darkness.

They should at least wait until December before the Christmas music starts....not at the end of October!!!

Don’t you mean the rest of the year? I walked into a Walmart on Friday, saw Christmas decorations and walked right back out. Like can we fucking get through thanksgiving first, you greedy corporate capitalist assholes? 😡 Thankfully, I don’t indulge in any of that crap. I walked back in after I saw giant bags of candy for sale for $3 and change(original price was $15). That’s the only thing I celebrate about Halloween: the damn candy sale after. 😆😆

Yeah, I don’t get the obsessive enthusiasm with what is really only one day out of the 364 (give or take) in a year. Well, perhaps the need to make it through the make-or-break month for a lot of companies (walking around the mall in January and February, you can tell the stores who didn’t have a good Christmas by the “out of business” signs) is the reason? I know people who seem to think that the focus of a literal 3 or 4 months out of the year should be centred around that one day. Since we already had our Thanksgiving, up here, my usual metric is Remembrance Day (as in tomorrow), for what “should” be the start of the craziness. This year, I have seen people’s Christmas trees up in their windows 2 weeks ago, and started seeing overt ads a week before that. Really? A week before Hallowe’en? I wanna say WTF, but it’s just the latest example of the creep, year after year. And, I suspect that the virus means some people have had less focus on other things, and more than enough time to get ramped up for the season even earlier. The economic pain for stores that has been this year also encourages them to do the same? Yay? I dunno. Can you get, like, all of the retail workers together and make it a mental-health issue? It seems like there is assumed to be a lot of duty to accommodate in lots of situations, these days. Why wouldn’t employers have to figure out some way to consider their employees, rather than just try to juice revenue? That is a rather bad sign if you are on here blogging about it in the morning. Did you manage to keep your sanity until the end of the day? For one day, anyways ... ? Instead of on your eardrums, would it be better to use the letter opener on the equipment which gets the “music” out to the speaker system? Make sure you fuck it up, real good? Maybe lots of deep, calming breaths? Ooooom ... oooooom ... It's veteran's day for us here as well, this year I have special meaning attached to it. I actually spent the better part of my shower, this morning, crying, thinking about my middle son. Before now, I'd never had a close family relative who was in active duty or who was a veteran. Sure, I know people who joined earlier in life and got out, and I work with a few veterans, but it certainly didn't have the same meaning for me as it does now, now that my son enlisted in the Marines. I am so very, very proud of him and I know he's going to do well. The problem is, all I can see when I think of him is his tiny little face smiling up at me. The hardest part about being a mom is watching them grow up.

The radio station I listen to in my vehicle started playing Christmas music on November 1....all Christmas music, 24/7. They will keep playing it until midnight on Christmas day. I'm already more than tired of it and I don't have to listen to it that often or that long. And of course the Hobby Lobby stores have had Christmas decorations out since sometime in July. The world is going mad I tell ya!

I share your disdain for some of the holiday rituals. My hill that I will forever die on is that Christmas music should be played no earlier than after Thanksgiving!

 Secret  and a Merry Fucking Christmas to you too  I don't know about your store, but Festive items seem to appear on the shelves earlier every year. No doubt that Easter eggs will be on the shelves before Christmas Day
