Saturday Explorers

The Spawn and I trekked out today....

Our original goal was to visit Mackinaw and take a peek at that blue ice.

Um, yah... That was a nightmare!

I didn't realize it was Winterfest up there. Not a parking spot to be had in the whole town of Mackinaw.

Instead we decided to drive down to Cecil Bay then swing around to Sturgeon Bay, finally ending up at the Petoskey Waterfront.

What had started out to be a beautiful, sunny day turned grey and overcast quickly, but I was able to get some nice pic's of our trip.

Looks like I'll have to pick a different weekend to see the blue ice... Hopefully it'll still be there.

We have some great pebbled beaches on the coast near me. I just haven't been able to get down there.
You're missing out. . Maybe you need to trek out for a while.... Even if to just see it from a distance.

I didn't see any.... But those stones are all transplanted there to stop beach erosion. There are condos to the left of the pier, when they were built they lined the shore with the stones.

Literally everything has been cancelled since the start of the pandemic.... It doesn't even occur to me that I need to check ahead anymore. Looks like those days are coming to an end. I was surprised to see this going on.

Mackinaw Island.... yes. Mackinaw City, no. Mackinaw City is very touristy and pretty much rolls up its sidewalks in the winter, bit it's right on the express way, and the lower peninsula side of the bridge.

    Interesting phenomenon.

We get brownish-green ice on a nearby lake over here. 🤔 No one gives a shit.
And there's a park I sometimes walk through that has blotches of yellow snow scattered near fire hydrants and trees - and the like - but THAT'S, another story. 😁
The blue ice doesn't happen every year, but when it does, it's very pretty. I follow a photographer on facebook that posted photos he took on Thursday that were absolutely amazing.

Charlie Brown got a rock for his trick or treat efforts in "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown".

The blue ice would be worth the return trip to see it!
I'm going to try it again next weekend, when everything is back to normal. It's been a couple of years since the last time we had the blue ice in the straits. It's really a sight to see.
