Gender specific words now being tossed out for non gender terms? This story by Jack Kelly senior Contributor I was reading an article this week about banning gender specific words being banned by Certain towns and Cities throughout Canada and the USA.. Now what i read and specifically understand that words that contain things that point to gender specific and " -centric?" New word? hmmm these words are being replaced with gender -neutral words..This was put forth by Rigel Robinson a Berkeley Councilperson " Not man " Councilperson..this is the start of a big change for USA and Canadian Citizens.. Ok words like " manhole" will now be known as " maintenance holes" " Brother or Sister " will now be known as " siblings " " Manpower " will be known as " human effort " Personal pronouns such as " she, he, and him, " will be replaced with " they or them".As of now 24 terms have now been changed non binary or non gender terms.. ***** My opinion and many others will ask or wonder Ok what if it doesnt stop there? what if it seeps into the work place and is mandated , gender-neutral terms are set in place? What will happen? it definately upset the apple cart ...wow not the pressure of work related duties then remembering use non-gender words replace the ones we use every day undoubtedly will create extra pressure and stress...lol then come the gender neutral Police hand you a ticket and fine you for not adhering the specific word you forgot use.Will your co worker have you charged for calling them a woman or man when you should be using what? gawd i am confused already...What does a call his or her Mother or Father ? By their first ? Arggggggggg! |

Man Oh Man...Oops! That should be Person-O-Person..lol Screw it..Still going to call a Manhole a Manhole...hehe...We are being led by a total bunch of Nuts!

I don't even know what to say as I don't see issue with the words so why change them. I just don't get how some people think these days, as things are offensive to some that have never been offensive before.. I hope you have a great weekend hun and thanks for sharing this informative piece with us.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

As if western culture hasn’t already come up with enough different ways to make us the world’s laughingstock... I hadn’t realized that epidemic has spread from California to Canada.

This is ridiculous, why do we need to change words? Cause they might get there feelings hurt? Man and woman up people, there are bigger problems than your feelings. Thanks for the info though.

I have to wonder what alternatives are in the works for words and names like MENstruation, MENopause, MENtal, MENial, MENsa, and everything else in the dictionary that starts with MEN or MAN, laughing MANiacly here.

This is a touchy subject, what do a person do? I know, I try not to use words that going to hurt.

Sounds like vague "news" meant to cause foaming at the mouth by right wing nut jobs. oh look... it worked.

Something I noticed over the last few years is that "actress" is no long used, everyone in the performing arts is called an "actor" now. And I think the cockpit on an aircraft is now referred to as the flight deck. Fireman has, quite rightly given the number of genders volunteering for the fire service, been dropped in favour of firefighter. I think the generation will begin to use those terms and that will become second nature to them and the "old" versions will be gradually dropped.

The City of Berkeley is having every (Man & Woman) word in City related publications changed... Including Judicial, Municipal and Building Codes, all public forms and signs. There's nothing "vague" about it - not even the stupidity behind it.

It's worst than stupidity run amok by the voters who put these fools in office. The same voters are willing to pay for the editing and republication of volumes of documents and public signage in the tens of millions. They already spend about 5% more than revenue or income and the five year plan intends on maintaining that spending gap adding to the total debt the city already has.

Just what would kids call their parents? Funny ha-ha thing the other day... had a girl's shopping day with my Mum. It was crowded and a bit loud in the store. She's a bit hard of hearing now, and I realized that my normal-projected pitch wasn't getting her attention. Try another tactic. "Female Parental Unit!" Worked liked a charm. sorry it has taken me so long to reply and yes i also did read that article and now as i understand from most of the articles its going to become part of every government official department to adhere to non gender specific words...I am not sure if it will start there or continue..I also heard thru the grapevine that the cities and towns will be issuing an invitation to anyone who wants to learn what those non gender list of acceptable words.are going to be used...thanks and again sorry this is so late
