A Sears Catalogue... And Secret Lives of Spurned Lovers... 😮❤️

I used to enjoy browsing the Sears catalogue. I'd glance at the pages and wonder which coffee table would define me? Could only one represent all of me?

Friends who'd visit would frown, but it was MY space, and I ignored their snotty appraisals. My style was more conformist when I'd go to work. I'd always make sure my belt matched my shoes, and my tie endorsed the shirt and suit I wore. That's a distinction we all share, isn't it?

Your public self isn't always your private you unless you decide to make it so.

Nobody at work knew that on weekends, I was committed to losing a portion of my hearing. Who'd guess that I was slamming a set of drums on a stage with three other crazies while building an ear-bleeding wall of sound?

Those good times and late nights wove themselves into a rhythmic expression of who I am. The hours near midnight? Now they were the most intriguing. People would inevitably morph into various shades of themselves.

She did.

We were playing a wedding in a hotel ballroom. They'd just rolled out the roast pig and buffet spread, and guests were having a great time. Others, already too drunk to dance, were slumped at their tables. Then there were the few who cried at every ballad we played. She was one of those - wrapped in a purple polyester dress and flowing tears.

Her long-time boyfriend had recently dumped her, and she was wallowing in self-pity. She wept her entire life story to me - in between sets. At one point, she leaned towards me and whispered;

"Let's go to my room and fuck."

Before I could reply, she excused herself and dashed into the bathroom to puke. Later, as the band packed up, she staggered out of the hall with a friend in hand and waved goodbye.

On the following Monday, I was shocked to see her again.

She was strutting up the hallway of the office tower I worked in. I did a double-take, and she stopped. She was wearing a designer business suit and carried herself as if she had a position with a title - and a private parking spot. She turned white as we shared an awkward silence. Finally, we traded a few words, and she continued walking to wherever she was going.

It's bizarre when someone's public image smacks into their private one, isn't it? Ever have one of those bumps? I never saw her after that.

Oh, and my eclectic coffee table? My wife got rid of it when she moved in. She said it was, 'A bohemian piece of shit.'

I thought it was a great place to keep my Sears catalogues. Someone still prints them, don't they?

Are your two worlds transparent or is your public you, completely different from your private you? 🤔

Well, most people know that I played in a band. They don't know all the details and I don't share them. I think folks get, that I have a wild side to me.
But I stay pretty private with many parts of my life, including the one on THIS site. 😎

Do you miss those huge glossy paged catalogues?

I enjoyed flipping through all sorts of catalogues when I was younger. These days it's all on line, isn't it?
It's not as much fun. 🤔

I am not transparent. BC.....before covid, I had a lot more fun that my circle of friends, family and co workers know nothing of and they never will.
Now, I am the homebody working girl with no fun. It sucks.

When I first read the title I was praying this wasnt a shitty post . Ya know I dont remember the Sears catalog. I might have been the ads in Parent's Magazine or the one with Norma Rockwell paintings on the cover. My private life stays out of this site 99% of the time- why share some goodies with folks you will never know But I was a hell raiser and have some funny tales

Moi? Shitty post? Hmmm... I guess it's possible. 😊
Those Rockwell covers resonate. So many interesting magazines and catalogues, back in the day. 'Life' , was my favorite. 'Châtelaine' had great pics of women in their underwear. lol 😂 I was a kid.
You were a hell raiser? Pray... do tell.
Or save it for your blog. I'd love to hear an anecdote or two. Ok, tell me one.

That is so true. Those mailmen used to haul those filled bags around. And especially at Xmas 🎄 time.
I miss them. The catalogues, not the mailmen. But actually, I miss those guys as well.

While I do remember the Sears catalogs, I was more of an Eaton's man myself. Just a personal preference.... *grins* I can even remember the odd Bay Store catalog every once in a while......

Omg! I totally remember that catalog.... I used to go through the toy section and circle the letters of all that toys I wanted. As for my public self and private self... I keep them as separate as possible because I'm completely different when I'm at work than when I'm on my own time.

My public self (who are we kidding, there's no public self at the moment) and my private self are pretty much the same... partly because I work for myself, but really that I'm not wild at all much any more lol!

I looked at that Sears catalog as a kid. Now my private life no one knows about. Not many on here know that side of me. When I did work I had two friends who knew about my Submissive side but no one else did. For the most part I was quiet and still am today.

I really love this post because:

1) my dad worked for Sears for most of his career (a store manager at the end) so of course we ALWAYS had a big Sears catalog in the house.

2) I've often felt like I lead a double life with a straight job but an un-straight life after hours. My first job out of college, I was a bank examiner yet spent weekend nights listening to punk rock bands. Much later it was the combo of having.a straight job but being on this site and Fetlife.

I understand what you mean.
Dja ever get a chance to race through the empty aisles, after store hours? Isn't there something special about a public place when no one else is there?
Bank examiner? Wow... If they only knew.
I was always shocked when I'd accidentally let something slip and that co-worker would pick up on it. Not like I was hiding anything.
I think many of us are just so careful about what we share.
Bank examiner? 🤔 hmmm... I'd have outted you.. lol 😂 😮
Dja ever catch yourself and bite your tongue on someone else's remark?
If they only knew...
Yep.. Sears was a classic! 👍

First, being in a band is awesome, the situation with the lady was akward for here, I know the Sears catalog was finally, but the band, the women that got dumpped, flirting, and then she a business woman in the morning, is materiel you use on a script on "Skinamax"! You can tell a hell of a story!

The stuff we used to come across while playing was classic. So many tales to tell.
I'm sure - if you've ever been to a wedding - you could relate.
