TS/TV/TG/CD, Is there a Difference?
TS/TV/TG/CD, Is there a Difference? Yes, most definitely! Late last night I had two conversations with men that were clearly unsure what they really wanted. Both were inexperienced in dealing with individuals in the TS/TV/TG/CD community however both were “curious” and wanted to “try”. They were talking with me in the belief that I could satisfy their needs when in fact they couldn’t have been more wrong. Later I began to think about the confusion that is still out there over those of us that are either TS/TV/TG or a CD. Since IMs are not intended for detailed discussions I promised both to put something in my Blog that may them. Each of these abbreviated terms attempt to categorize our community into easily identifiable types but stringing the terms together with only a Slash between them , the uniqueness of each is lost. Here’s the differences as I see them; TS (Transsexual) is someones who has assumed the identity of the opposite sex, be it to Female or Female to Male, and wishes to be considered as such. Transsexual people assuming the identity of the opposite sex usually include physical changes to more closely resemble those of the gender they wish to become. Transsexuals have not undertaken Gender or Sexual Reassignment Surgery and have retained the genitalia of their birth. TV (Transvestite) is someone who derives sexual excitement from the clothing of the opposite sex. Today, this almost exclusively are men who wear female clothing, mostly under garments and or heel shoes. This desire may not lead beyond this level of enjoyment and is almost always done in total privacy or secrecy. TG (Transgendered) are people who have completely taken the outwardly physical changes to be considered of another gender. Someone Transgendered has had Sexual Reassignment Surgery which began with Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Keep in mind that to date, replacement or addition of the internal sexual organs is theoretical possible but as far as I’m aware has never been performed. CD (Crossdresser) are people, again usually males, who find sexual excitement wearing clothing and make up of the opposite sex. This is often, but not always, done with other CDs and may involve mutual sexual acts while Crossdressed. CDs may venture to public places on occasion while Crossdressed but will, for various reasons, normally need to return to their daily gender role un-crossdressed. These are simply my definitions and most surely do not cover every individual case. I am only attempting to clarify, in general terms, the major differences of TS, TV, TG and CD. To describe myself, well I have gone through three of the four categories I listed above. As a young boy, I found it extremely exciting to to dress in my ’s undergarments when alone. She had a wide variety of sexy clothes and was a . Later, when I was in college, I began Crossdressing and going to gay clubs and bars but was living as a Monday to Friday. In my mid 20s I decided to Transition to a full time woman. I began Hormone Replacement Therapy to Feminize my body and came out as a Transsexual at work. I have recently had some physical “enhancements” to add greater dimension to what the Estrogen Therapy gave me. Since 99 I have lived, worked and socialized as a Female. As an aside, I now celebrate October , 99 as my Birthday. So, my own experience and definitions, I was a TV, then a CD and now a TS. Since I have not had Gender/Sexual Reassignment Surgery I am not a true TG although I often use the term as a way of describing my Mental, Emotional and Physical state at this time in my life. I hope this make some sense to anyone who reads this. Jan, a Transsexual |

I had a very good male friend who was a CD. Definitely NOT a TG or a TS, and ironically, was married to a woman (whom he exclusively 'dressed' for) that could easily have passed for a man at anytime, body shape, face, hair, etc, attitude, voice, the whole works. And she dressed as male as a woman's fashion could allow, but never showed in inclination to be a CD nor a TS or a TG. Very few knew of the husband's activities, I only learned because once when he & her were having domestic issues, he got very drunk and felt he HAD to tell me, and later was confirmed by HER also as part of a drunken confessional episode! While I knew prior to that, that some people did such, I had no idea anything specific or that I KNEW anyone who did that. It was an eye opener for me.

it does make sense....thank you. Yet...i am still confused, if that makes sense..lol Transexuals and transgendered are too closely aligned to differentiate in my opinion. I thought that transgendered meant the reassignment surgery had taken place, and that transexual had not or may not ever consider that. I do believe that they both are an internal brain/emotion pull and thats its not simply a sexual stimulation or draw. Yup...still confused here~~

At least that helps with identifying them or what is the difference

Thanks for the clarification. I always thought transsexuals had the sexual reassignment surgery and transgender was an umbrella term for all TV/CD/TS. I learned something today. I also have to say you are beautiful!

TG/CD are very close in relationship, difference variations. All of your descriptions focus on clothing and looks. When, in fact, the clothes and looks have very little to do with any of this. A man can be a TG or CD while just wearing a t shirt and baseball cap. In the old says, they called it Androgyny. kinda like Peter Pan or Keith Partridge. Today, to add another term, they wrap it up under Non conformist or Non Binary, where I would probably fall. It is not a costume, or wearing clothes, shoes, or lipstick, it is a born -in genetic make up that has been allowed to blossom in it's own right without the constraint of societal norms. This is why heterosexual men may find themselves attracted to another man not realizing the man he is attracted to is actually, more or less, genetically more female than male. TG/CD are often used interchangeably since both can move back and forth between the two definitions with ease and there is no set line. It is all very fluid. TS, or Tran-sexual, is almost always to me "had the surgery" but that does not mean they are more female as is M2F or male as is F2M than a tg /cd. In fact, sometimes, like a bad nose job, people try to achieve something with surgery only to end up looking like a man in drag but now without the dick. While your definitions all sound very clinical and textbook, we basically have three types of humans. Men who are men, women who are women, and men and women who are both.

Thanks for your personal insight. As someone who finds those who are living full-time as a female exciting to know and be with, your explanation will help me explain what I am looking for.
