Driving and then a crash!

My current and past jobs require and required me to drive to see customers. I have been in several fender benders over the past 30 years. A vast majority of those were someone else's fault.

I had just dropped my customer off after a nice lunch out. I started to my next stop for that day. The day was sunny and no rain. Light fluffy clouds populated the sky. I was approaching my first intersection of this new trip. The light had just turned green as I approached. I was only 200 yards away traveling at a rate of 35 mph. When I reached the middle of the intersection I soon found myself on the opposite side of the intersection. I had be T-boned my a 89 year old driver who missed the light. He was driving a black older Lincoln Town car.

The collision did push my Grand Prix across the intersection. It caved in the whole passenger side of the car and the sheer from the friction popped the tires. I had my belt on and walked away from that accident.

They can happen when you least expect them.

Tell us about one you were in?

That was one of the worst wrecks I was involved in. The car was never driven again.

Wow. A couple of amazing accidents. This can happen in a matter of seconds. Best part is that you did not get seriously hurt.

Another crazy accident. You seem to have been lucky. I sometimes pass in a two lane, when I do I do it very quickly. I will relate one more story later. Thanks for contributing.

I was driving on a two lane road heading to a customer about 2 hours from my house. The winter day was cold with the sun breaking through the clouds. The roads had been plowed of the other days snow. The roads were fine. I knew this road from my past trips. I had caught up to a truck that was moving slower than I was traveling. I had reached a straight away where I could make a pass. To this point the roads had been dry and clear.

I applied some force the the gas peddle. My car responded to the command to accelerate and I pulled out into the opposite lane. As I passed the back wheels of the flat bed truck my front wheel drive car started to slip, I had hit a patch of black ice! My choices at that time were two. The first would have been potentially very dangerous , continuing the slide and end up under the flat bed. The other was to intentionally steer my car away from the truck and turn into the farm field on the other side of the state route. It looked pretty flat.

As I steered the car into the field all seemed like it would end well. It did not! I would need to get a rental car and miss my appointment. My car had hit a rock in the field on the right side of the car, popping both tires. This event caused my car to go into a roll and I ended upside down, I came to rest on the roof of my car. My seatbelt kept me in my seat suspended upside down. I did unbuckle and made it out of the car . In a matter of moments the EMS was there . No issues for me , but the car ended up being scraped.

So you do have to be ready for anything on the roads. Over the year I have taken multiple driving courses through the companies that employed me. They have helped me stay alive. Today I saw several people passing me on the interstate, they were texting,. Not a great idea to text when they were going over 75 mph. We do need to think about that .
