Ode to my therapist

Therapy cannot give a home, an income, and it is not a replacement for the type of human connection that I've been chasing for my entire life. What therapy did give me on the other hand was further alienation because I was forced constantly lie about who I was and how I felt due the threat of involuntary hospitalization. I do not care if it's part of your job description, it's inhumane and it doesn't actually help any of us nor does it stop people from ending their lives. The people in your profession and society in general need to stop spreading the propaganda that the end is a product of "mental illness", that it's irrational, mostly impulsive, and that it is solvable with trivial notions of "help" like involuntary hospitalization or worthless positive affirmations. How are you people too dumb to realize that your inhumane and ignorant approach pushes people closer to the end, not further away from it?

The reality is that many of us are just another case number and that there are no real forms of help out there. Most of the "normal" people in this world don't care about the disabled, the homeless, the autistic, or the traumatized because it inconveniences their own privileged lives. Even simply listening to people like me is too much of an effort because the problems that we have shatter their narrow minded world view of life being a "precious gift". There are very few people in this world that genuinely care about the ones less fortunate than them while the rest only throw around empty platitudes to feed their superficial sense of empathy.

If people really want to help us then they need to accept that some of us are so debilitated by the adversity we've faced that we aren't allowed to work and that it doesn't make us worthless. Without real forms of help people like me don't have the slightest chance to have a good quality of life and our only real choice ends up being the end. People need to accept that it is a rational choice in response to problems which often aren't fixable or temporary and they need to respect it as a genuine option. At the bare minimum we need kindness and understanding, not force and alienation. We need homes, we need a guaranteed income, and we need real forms of therapy that address the root cause of our problems, like the physical changes we need and not harmful behavioral therapies that most of the people in your profession like to promote to feed their own egos.

Normal People Scare Me. Maybe they do not realize what is happening around them? Or maybe they have blinders on? When life becomes such a burden and pain, then it is time to look at making some major changes for you and not for someone else.

Wolfy, I came back on here to try to find that partner in life that might make a difference for me. This experience has solidified the fact that there is only one change society wants from me.
