Music. A natural addiction.

10-21-2020

Turn off the television, escape the sad, disturbing, and exploited events for a day or an adult time out session.

Music is a great escape for the lack of a better word and each of us most likely has that one song close heart.

There are such a variety of genres explore, that could be a concept born into a brain in these times of quartine and the now famous phrase 'social distance'.

Just as you google information the same option applies to revive a search for free apps for your musical personality.
Do not pump the breaks at lyrical meditation your choices also include games, which offers a chance to reinvent the standard relaxation and/or meditation, plus one could also use for sharpening the brain and family fun...unless you are needing a break from your role to adult, I just use my truth and scream out that I created a dysfunctional crew and it's time to press the 'screw you' button! I have come to terms with the idea that Leave it to Beaver's family can never exist nor will I have the pleasure of visiting the Addams Family.

Now, venting aside back the topic. Discovering new musical interests and artists can be intriguing, think like the explorer Ponce de Leon or dare to take a chance like the famous showgirl, Christine Keeler.

I love the vocals of Ms. Etta James her soulful sound is a soothing way to reminisce the years of days past. In my opinion, most of the population is not familiar with her strange twists of fate that invaded her life and legendary career. Born to a mother of years of age, her youth was spent in various foster homes where she suffered abuse. The music industry was introduced Jamesetta Hawkins in 1954. Known as Etta; she gained fame with her amazing songs "I'd Rather Go Blind" and "Damn Your Eyes". Her career spans decades in which she endured more physical abuse, incarceration, and addiction heroin. Her addiction disease led her a short-lived absence from recording. Etta recorded the song "Something's Got a Hold on Me" about her addiction & recovery. Her strong will overcome the unfavorable odds be ranked #22 out of the 100 greatest artists of time.
Grace Potter expresses her vocal talent in a soulful rock sound. When I am engaged in conversations I take part in about musical preferences she is often unknown. She can be best recognized for the duo with Kenny Chesney, " You and Tequila Make Crazy" Miss Grace and the late Amy Whinehouse each have a commonality in which fame is not what they seek, their love of music and composing are more gratifying, the art form of lyrical timeless masterpieces is the gratifying achievements sought after in their careers. Both women wanted perform at small venues and do their art in a recording studio letting the music speak for itself. Grace and her band The Nocturnals succeed in that goal, with great sadness Amy's life went in another well-known direction. Miss Grace is fantastic as a multi-instrumentalist and her vocals have been compared the infamous Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. Her recordings include Paris, Starts, pls The Little White Gate. Miss Grace has been privileged collaborate with The Rolling Stones and James Brown. My personal listen is The Lion, the Beast, and the Beat. Original Soul was released in 2002 as a solo project which awarded her best solo performance for her Blues song Down By The Water.

Who could forget The Animals and their famous song House of the Rising Sun? A true original, yet it has a new and remarkable version of just the lyrics. A gospel anomaly any spiritual person (or not) would stop and listen to. The Blind Boys of Alabama have combined the musical notes of House of the Rising Sun with the lyrics of Amazing Grace. Phenomenal, one of kind masterpiece. This award-winning gospel quartet was first performed in 1939. Their long-spanning career also included an invitation to sing for presidents. Activists for the deaf and blind they have left a legacy that will be long-lasting as well as inspiration for other new gospel artists.

Cultural Origins of the 1960s and early '70s produced the first wave of Southern Rock. Elvin Bishop, Wet Willie, The Charlie Daniels Band, Little Feat, ZZ Top, and Lynyrd Skynyrd produced songs that are still enjoyed today. The song Free Bird has the popularity that ranks as high as the National Anthem in the most played category. The Devil Went Down to Georgia made the Violins name common called the Fiddle. Rockabilly was born and continues popularity decades later.

Late 1970 & 1980 brought new genres. The music had a new tune to listen to. Funk, Soul, R&B, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, and Disco all carved out their place in the music world. In the late '70s came the birth of Hip-Hop.

Country Music also is known as cowboy Western music, plus American folk music and many more named. Begining in 1920, the Carter Family emerged as the happy song family and made You are my Sunshine a song that has become timeless. The first commercial recording was done in 1923 featuring the lyrics and vocals featuring Fiddlin' John Carson with Little Log Cabin in the Lane. Men & Women made their mark in the Country genre. Bluegrass entertained us with nothing less than comedy caricatures and talent such as Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, plus the Grand Ole Opry. Honkytonk followed with Hank Williams. Hank's influence would prove to be an influence, inspiring the pioneers of Rock & Roll such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis as well as Chuck Berry. It also provided a framework for artists such as George Jones. 1956 became the year of rockabilly which was an early form of Rock & Roll. Topping the Billboard charts that year was Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and the original artist of Blue Suede Shoes Carl Perkins. Through the Ozark Jubilee on ABC-TV and radio from 1955-1960 gained Country music nationwide attention. Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagner, Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Charlie Pride. Tammy Wynette are just a few of the first television personalities. The era of the Outlaws ie: Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, Tompall Glaser recorded a compilation album; released by RCA records in 1976 becoming the first country album to go platinum-certified. 1980 through today brought the talent of several distinctive artists from Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Clint Black, Dwight Yoakam, Crystal Gail, T Graham Brown, Roxanne Cash to name just a very few. The best of the best George Strait, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum, and the number one artist Garth Brooks. Country music is still evolving with the new sounds of Country Pop featured artists such as Taylor Swift, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Eric Church, Maren Morris, and more. I recommend Chris Stapelton & Alison Krauss and Patsy Cline. Since the conception of Country music to the current day is Stand by your Man, Tammy Wynette. If you are looking for a fabulous duet by two very unexpected artists, head over to YouTube and search Loretta Lynn & Jack White performing Oregon.

If you are a serious meditator I would suggest Zen music. Available at Amazon or on an Echo Dot just ask Alexa.

Seeking a fun family activity that's possibly new to your knowledge base? Try playing Disc Golf. Not expensive to buy starter discs and any course in your location is always free to play on. Google search for a Disc Golf course location in your area. This sport offers not only a family activity but the opportunity to be outdoors and to explore nature. YouTube has excellent videos about how to play. has groups that have players that will be glad answer any questions you may have or tips on playing. I recommend The Disc Golf Mom page.

Good music is easy to appreciate, regardless of genre.

One of my favorite ice-breakers in a group setting is to ask everyone: "What was the first concert you went to?" This sparks some great conversations...

Miss T - What was your first concert that you went to? Mine, was Rick James...

Bon-jovi and Cinderella. Still listen to their music today, but by far
the most enjoyable was Huey Lewis & The News.
Thank you, Miss T.
