RIP Betsy Blue--We Loved You!

RIP Betsy Blue--We Loved You! My car developed a loud noise from the left rear wheel on the way to work this morning. Not fun. I called Chris, our mechanic/family friend, who said it would be safe driving it to his shop after my first shift, so I did, not liking the feel or noises my old friend was making on the four-mile journey through hell Turns out that my running over that BFR (Big Freaking Rock) at work yesterday morning had put a hole into the rear axle (?) requiring this be replaced, to the tune of $4000. As much as I love Betsy Blue, the fact is that she's only worth $3000 as she was, so this ended up being her<b> death </font></b>sentence. Fortunately, Chris had an older Toyota for sale at $4000, which he knocked down to $3000, agreeing to accept $2000 down, the rest in payments. We struck a deal over the phone (I know next to nothing about the car, but Chris told me to my face it was a good deal, and I trust him). Bambi is providing the down payment, and starting with tomorrow's paycheck, I'm responsible for paying it off ASAP. As luck would have it, at our drivers' meeting today, we got bonus checks, raises, and some extra money in our checks starting on January 14th. My bonus went to Bambi, and the extra money in my check will go a long way to paying the new (to us) car off by the first week of February. One ray of sunshine in a very dark day! I'm identifying surplus stuff, with the idea of selling as much of it online as possible to help pay the new car off ASAP. Lots of it. . . . . On top of all the money going out for the car, we also need a new bed, because our old one is shot to hell, and costing Bambi lots of sleepless nights. I'm hoping to finance most of this with a new credit card I have coming soon, and another card I will shortly be drastically paying down. Wish me luck. Our goal is to have this operational shortly after the first of the year, so bed-shopping is now top priority! Wish us luck. . .  |
