Small Scares II

Small Scares Story 3

For the last year you’ve been living beside an old man. When you initially moved in next door, you didn’t pay much attention to him. One day when you came home early from work, you saw the old man being lifted out of a traveling bus in a wheelchair. As he started going towards his front door, his grocery bag tore and the contents started spilling out. You unlocked your door and quickly tossed your purse on the table, put your keys in your pocket, and strode over towards the old man to help him with his groceries. After that, you started regularly helping the old man whenever he needed it. On a bright, sunny, pleasant morning, you walked over to the old man’s house to see if he needed anything from the store. You’re knocking, and knocking, and knocking, but when you got no response, you figured the old man just left while you were sleeping in late that morning, so you went about your business.

As the day went on, you didn’t see the old man. Maybe he is at the senior citizens center or something like that you tell yourself. The days go by one after the other, and still you see no sign of him. You are worried now, so you contemplate what you want to do. You’re not one to jump to conclusions so quickly, so you tell yourself that maybe you just never seen the old man coming and going from his house because you’ve been working overtime for the last weeks. After a few minutes, to be on the safe side, you’ve decide that you’re going to call the police and see if they will do a wellness check on the old man. You start heading towards the telephone, but something on the local news catches your attention as you’re passing by the TV. The journalist is talking about the winner of the local marathon that’s held every year, and the camera zooms in on the champion as they are crossing the finish line, and you’re standing there in quiet shock. It hits you all at once who the winner is...it’s the old man from next door.

Small Scares Story 4

You’ve come back home after being gone for two weeks on vacation with your family. You get out of the car, grab your luggage, and start to head inside, but you want to check the outside of your house before going in. Sure, you had the neighbors watching the house for you, but you think maybe they could’ve left for a few days or so to do some things for themselves. You feel it’s logical to assume they couldn’t have watched your house every day. You leave your luggage at the front door, and start walking around your house to make sure all windows and doors were locked and secured just how you left them. After being pleased with how everything looked, you head back around to your front door, unlock it, grab your luggage, and go inside.

Everything looks just the way you left it, dusty, but the same. You take your luggage upstairs to your bedroom, grab a duster and a vacuum from your hallway closet, and start cleaning up. After a few hours, everything is cleaned, and you’re tired. You go back upstairs with the duster and vacuum in hand, putting them back in the closet, and you head towards your bedroom. You grab some clothes from your closet, some bathing products from the top drawer, but then you stop. You feel nothing, you furrow your brows, so you pull the drawer out further, there you find your bathing products, and head towards the bathroom. After you finish your shower, you decide you want to eat something light for dinner since you’re tired from cleaning, and you have to go to work in the morning.

You leave from your bedroom and head to the kitchen. You’ve decided to make a veggie noodle bowl, so you get all the necessary things from your pantry, and start preparing it. After a half hour or so, everything is done, you head towards the living room, and start watching TV. When you’re done eating, you turn off the TV, head back to the kitchen, wash the dishes, and head to the bathroom. You do some last minute fresh ups and head down the hallway to your bedroom. While your walking, you thought you seen something run past the hallway window out of your peripheral. You walk over to the window watching in different directions for a few minutes, see nothing, and figure it was just a trick of the eye or a car passing by. You shrug your shoulders, and continue to your bedroom. You put some last minute things away, flip the switch by your door to turn off the hallway light, close your bedroom door, head over to your lamp and start to turn it off. You hear a noise. You stand very still and listen carefully to hear where the noise is coming from. After a few moments, you hear laughter and car doors slam from next door. Your mind is put at ease and you let out a low chuckling sign. You turn your attention back to the lamp and turn it off. While your arm is still extended with your fingers just barely leaving the chain...a pair of arms grab hold of you...and pull you into the dark.
