Well not the whole tree, just a large branch. Though in retrospect it could have been a tree unto itself. Funny I never heard a thing when it dropped. I didn't even feel the ground shake. The tree was fine when I went off to work this morning...dodging the rain drops I went in and completed my daily tasks and came home. Tree was still fine. Waited till my daughter came over so she could run me to get blood work done. ( told her last night that the place wasn't open on Saturdays, but she was sure it was...) Yeah, sure enough the place was closed. Always being a "Two Birds" the trip over wasn't a total loss we dropped by the pharmacy drive through to pick up a script for me and then stopped on the way to take me home so she could grab breakfast for her minions. (Doughnuts, eggs, milk the usual breakfast meal stuff ) I guess I got home about a quarter after nine, the tree was still doing fine. Even though it was still raining ( sprinkling ) I had some breakfast myself, ( fasting for my test that I didn't take ) and I guess I zonked out watching Zombie House Flippers. Any who I woke an hour or so later, went to the kitchen and looked out the window as I was grabbing a smoke.. and yep you guessed it. The big old branch that topped out above the third story deck had come down..it was still raining and a bit gusty out. So much so that my little potted palm on my deck was getting blown around quite a bit. Though it faired the storm a lot better then that oak tree in the yard. I thought about texting the Boss t let him know that limb fell. ( not that much could be done about it till a service could be called to clean up the mess ) But I didn't.. I figured he'd be out in the woods hunting ( its Bow season here ) and he'd been off on Friday so I figured he'd still be sitting in a tree stand some place waiting for a buck to cross his path. So I went back to watching TV figuring that the other guy who is on call this weekend would deal with the tree. ( I don't have his number or I would have called him ) I guess I fell asleep again...you can't blame me I don't get enough sleep during the week... I think I woke up again just before noon. Caution tape strung out around the mess outside. Sun shining bright...storm over.

Any who, a busy morning somewhat for me...though I didn't get much done as I had hoped too. I'll try again on Monday to get the blood work done....early enough so I can be back for work and grab a cup of coffee and end another fast. I'll continue Beth's story tomorrow for those of you interested.

I know what it's like to have a huge part of a tree come crashing down. I had a spruce tree in the back yard with a split top....half of it crashed into the back yard with a loud crash ripping a phone line and power line off the house one year ago this month. I ended up having both trees removed and the tree in the front tailored back so I wouldn't have the same problem in the future.

You can see where the top part broke off!

Funny but of the three trees in the complex ( one in each court yard ) this one was the thinnest of them. I figured the one in phase one would have gone down like this one did first. It being over grown as much as it is. All the trees are oak, and most of the once we have street side were either taken down by the city or cropped back big time last year. Have a good one.

So if you didn't hear a thing does this finally answer the old question - if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound??

I guess I'll never know? As I said I didn't hear a thing, but then I don't hear most things anyway. Being mostly deaf in one ear and not being able to hear out of the other. Have a good one Queen.

Us too. The part of the tree that fell was bigger than the average tree in most peoples yards.
I'm glad you got some more rest.
