Taking A Break Is Not A Sign of Defeat

The Mountain is a poem by English author and artist Laura Ding-Edwards . I.t is also the of her poetry book that was released in October "2019."

She does not proclaim her book t.o be one of self-help nor a cure for anything. Her overall view is that perfection is unattainable, kindness is paramount, and embracing every part of we are is the o.n.l.y way we find any kind of peace within ourselves.

This poem is a reminder that it is o.k t.o not always be o.k and is nothing wrong with taking a break as that is not a sign of defeat.

Too often, people beat themselves up for not be able to tackle things the first time. Or feel that they must always strive for perfection. As I said in a previous post, my goal is always to be my best on any given day. I don't try nor want to be anyone but the 'best' version of me.

That is a sensible approach to life. A person who can strive to the their best each day, and be willing to accept the outcome, is often much happier.

That thing about staying in bed? 🤔
Yeah, I think I'll follow that advice tomorrow or Sunday... or both.

Thankfully, I have never been one to demand perfection in myself.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

I am not perfect myself so therefore I don't expect perfection from anybody else!

"Perfection is unattainable, kindness is paramount, and embracing every part of who we are is the way we find any kind of peace within ourselves."

What a wonderful concept for this self-flagellating recovering Catholic.

Elevate me...

My motto in life has been....Be Kind to Yourself! Its especially useful in these trying times. Yes...taking a break is very necessary and alot of times when we revisit it....we see a different view. Be Kind....

Great Post !!

Yes, I thought people might think that. I didn't think simply putting "The Mountain" would catch people's interest to stop in and read. And to your point, I have taken breaks in different ways; just never went so far as to shut down my profile.

Definitely. Sometimes you have to step away from something to see it from a different and honest perspective.

Too often we put the needs of others before our own and the results aren't great. Kindness often costs nothing other than the effort to extend it. Thank you for dropping by and sharing your perspective.

What a great poem, I agree as well.

It also oddly reminds me of the Miley Cyrus song - The Climb

LYRICS
I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming
But, there's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it

Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I, I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No, I'm not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments, that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going

And I, I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, 'cause

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Yeah

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes you're gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Yeah, yeah

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep your faith, keep your faith
Whoa

Actually, your analogy doesn’t strike me as odd at all. I can understand why you thought of “The Climb”. Who knows? Perhaps it inspired Laura Ding-Edwards, since the pieces are 10 years apart.
